Here is what is making news in our parish:

1. THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY: 
    • Sunday, Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 19]
2.    THANKS TO EVERYBODY
  •  who helped prepare our parish for our patronal feast on Sunday, Sept. 7
  •  who provided food, beverages and music for our patronal feast .
  •  who helped make Bishop Suffragan Mary Glasspool's visit with us a huge success.
  •   who helped prepare our brothers and sisters who received the Sacrament of Confirmation or were received into the Anglican Communion and The Episcopal Church
3.   UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:  
  • Saturday, September 27: Third annual Faris Drive Neighborhood Block party from 10 am to 3 pm. Volunteer workers needed. Please, talk to Fr. Vincent if you can help with planning.
  • Blessing of the animals [in the plaza]: Sunday, October 5 after the 10 am Mass
  • PARISH RUMMAGE SALE: Saturday, November 8 & Sunday, Nov. 9
4.    OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
  • Continued healing for Bianca, Joanna, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Fr. Anderson

SPECIAL UPDATE: PATRONAL FEAST

Beloved in Christ,

Good afternoon.

Here is your invitation to our Patronal Feast celebration on Sunday, September 7.

Service will begin at 11 am with the rite for the Solemn Reception of a Bishop, followed by a procession around our neighborhood accompanied by a quartet of musicians playing trumpets and trombones. 

Bishop Mary Douglas Glasspool, Bishop Suffragan, Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles,  will be the Celebrant and Preacher at Mass following the procession. Mass will be bi-lingual - all printed in a very user-friendly worship bulletin.

Several members of the parish - in both Spanish and English communities - will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation or be received into The Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Following Mass, join us at our festive reception in St. Joseph Hall. This is a potluck event, so bring some food to share.

I am looking forward to this special event in our parish's life and hope you can join us. Bring your family and friends.

Parish UPDATE: August 31

Here is what is making news in our parish:

1. THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY: 
    • Sunday, August 31: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 17]
    • Labor Day weekend
2.   FR. HAROLD ANDERSON'S 90TH BIRTHDAY: August 30
  • May be you did not know but now you know
  • Fr. Harold Anderson's 90th birthday is August 30
  • Join us at Mass on Sunday, August 31 in a modest celebration at and following Mass to celebrate his ministry in the church and in our parish community
  • you may also consider sending him a card or just call him to wish him a happy birthday. He can be reached at 310-641-2414
3.    NEXT PARISH WORK DAYS
  • Saturday, August 30: We will clean the sacristy and get the church ready for the Patronal Feast. Work period begins at 9:30 and will be over by 10:30 am.
  • Saturday, September 6: We will set up the church [for the Patronal Mass] and St. Joseph Hall [for the potluck fiesta following Mass - 9:30 to 10:45 am)

  • Please, sign up NOW to bring food and beverages for the Patronal Fiesta on Sunday, September 7.

    • VESTRY MEETING in St. Cecelia Room beginning at 11:30 am

Parish UPDATE: August 17

Here is what is making news in our parish:

1. THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY: 
    • Friday (tonight): Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass at 7 pm here at St. Mary. Join us in celebration if you can.
    • Saturday, August 16: Free CPR training here at St. Mary sponsored by the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition. Training runs from  10 am to 1 pm
    • Sunday, August 17: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 15]
    • NO VESTRY MEETING
2.   PARKWAY LAWN CONVERSION:
  • work  is ongoing. 
  • volunteers needed and welcomed for planting new plants.
