Parish UPDATE: July 28

1.  THIS WEEKEND AT ST. MARY
  • Saturday, July 27: Parish field trip to Aquarium of the Pacific
  • Sunday, July 28: WORSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING at 11:30 am
2. NEXT SUNDAY: August 4:
  • Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost
  • IMAN's Interfaith Festival of Unity at 4:30 pm.  IMAN Center, 3376 Motor Ave. Los Angeles. CA 90034. More information at www.iman.org/testiman/Home.aspx
3URGENTLY NEEDED:
  • A team of four people to lead the patronal feast refreshment event. The project includes sign-up sheet, coordinating food, decorations - outside of church and in St. Joseph Hall. If you can help, please, talk to Fr. Vincent or Fr. Federico ASAP. 
  • Donations towards flowers for the Sept. 8 patronal feast.

  • Saturday, Sept. 7: Parish work day to clean, set up the church and St. Joseph Hall for the 2013 edition of our patronal feast.
  • Sunday, Sept. 8: Patronal Feast. Service begins at 11 am with a grand procession in our neighborhood followed with Mass. Bishop Diane Bruce will preside, preach, confirm six candidates and receive several members of the Hispanic congregation into the Episcopal Church and St. Mary. Refreshment will follow the Mass. Please, note: parking will be a challenge so plan on arriving early. Service will be bilingual - Spanish and English.
  • Saturday, Sept. 28: The 2013 edition of our Neighborhood Block party. We will also have the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially declare our new plaza open for use. Events start at 11 am with setting up beginning at 10 am. Join us in celebrating our magnificent community.

7. WEDDING GOWNS & RINGS FOR HAITI

The Parish of St. Mary in Palms is presently collecting wedding gowns and rings (just the plain band, no diamonds necessary) to support young couples in Haiti, where cultural custom requires that brides have a gown and ring, items that the late catastrophic earthquake has put far beyond the means of many, many persons.

If you can help with any of the above items or make a cash donation to support the cause, please, send donations to: Debora Shuger, Ph.D., The Parish of St. Mary in Palms, 3647 Watseka Ave, Los Angeles. CA 90034 or call Dr. Shuger at 310 202 8035. The rings, gowns, and funds collected will be sent to the Haitian convent of the Sisters of St. Margaret, who will oversee disbursement.

    'A taste of Cursillo' to be offered 
     on Saturday, July 20
  • A mini-Cursillo, led by the Rev. Lyn Crow and a team from Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Fullerton, will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Palms, Los Angeles, on Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The event is free of charge and includes lunch. Please, plan on arriving by 8:30 am
