Peace Vigil UPDATE

UPDATE just received from the IMAN Cultural Center minutes ago:

The PEACE Vigil scheduled for tonight, Saturday, July 19 has been cancelled. 

Pray for peace nonetheless in our world especially in the Middle East and Ukraine and Russia.

Parish UPDATE: July 20

Here is what is making news in our parish:

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY
    • Saturday, July 19: Join us at the IMAN Cultural Center, 3376 Motor Ave. this evening at 8 pm as we [our parish, the IMAN Cultural Center and a host of other religious groups] hold a PEACE VIGIL to pray for peace in the Middle East. Bring your friends.
    • Sunday, July 20: The Sixth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 11]
2.    MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDERS TRAINING - JULY 26: 
    • The second part of the 8-hour training required for certification will be held on Saturday, July 26 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at St. Mary. 
    • You may have missed this first training but if you are still interested, help us recruit the next class of 20 people. 
3. SPIRITUAL COMMUNION:
  • For those who are not able to make communion on Sunday during Mass, you now have the opportunity to make a Spiritual Communion during Holy Communion. You will find the text in our Sunday worship bulletin. Ideally, we'd like to have you receive Holy Communion with us.
4.   PALMS EMERGENCY  PREPAREDNESS PROJECT:
  • Help prepare the Palms Community for any emergency. Join the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition [PePC].  New members welcome to the Coalition.  Talk to Fr. Vincent after Mass or send him an email if you would like to learn more about PePC 
5.   PARKWAY LAWN CONVERSION:
  • we have all the waivers and approvals needed to begin work
  • work will begin July 21 with making sure the lawn is "dead" and will not grow new seeds.
  • actual digging up of the entire 3200 square feet of grass on Watseka and Faris will be from August 4 - 8. 
  • laying of drip-lines and planting is projected to be completed by August 21
  • our consultant, Joe Rodriguez will meet with the parish on Sunday, July 27 after Mass to discuss final details of the project and timelines.
  • volunteers needed and welcomed for digging up lawn and planting new plants.
6.   CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. MARY
  • on summer break. Have a great summer
7.  UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:  
  • Sunday, September 7: Patronal Festival [& Feast of Title]. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be our celebrant and preacher. Mass will be bilingual - Spanish and English. Please, mark your calendar and join us in this celebration.
  • Saturday, September 27: Third annual Faris Drive Neighborhood Block party from 10 am to 3 pm. Volunteer workers needed. Please, talk to Fr. Vincent if you can help with planning.
8.  SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
  • Do you know anyone interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? Would you like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
  • Next time this Sacrament will be administered in our parish will be during the Patronal Feast on Sunday, September 7. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be with us on that day.
  • Classes have already formed for both English and Spanish communities. Please, talk with Fr. Federico (for the Spanish Edition) and Fr. Vincent (for the English edition).
9.   OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
  • Continued healing for Bianca, Kucti Devi, Joana, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Betty Moreno, Fr. Anderson. 
  • Alyssa - travelling at this time - and all who will be travelling this summer.
  • Our youth: Larry Jr, Simone, Jeffrey, Natasha, Yasmine, Obed, Audrey and Michelle.
