Here is what is making news in our parish:
1. THIS WEEK AT ST. MARY - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2
- Saturday, February 1: Vestry Planning Retreat, Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park Ave. Los Angeles. From 9 am to 1 pm.
- Fourth Sunday after Epiphany.
- Christian Education Time [11:15 am]: We begin a four-part series on the "Christian Faith" to be taught by [Fr] Br. Derek, SSF. Please, pick up a flyer. Meet in St. Joseph Hall
2. Sunday, February 2: Feast of the Presentation/Candlemas. End of the Christmas season. We have a special bulletin. Come, celebrate with us
3. HELP NEEDED: Kitchen sink replacement
- We need all the help we can find to raise $650 to replace our aged kitchen sink in the parish kitchen which has served us faithfully over many years. The Try God Group of AA is also pledging some money and free labor towards this project.
- If you can help, please, make a check to "St. Mary in Palms" with "Kitchen sink" in the Memo line. Work will commence as soon as all the money is raised. Your donation may be tax-deductible.
- We have so far received $50 plus two more pledges of $50 each. Thanks for your generosity.
4. CALIFORNIA WATER CRISIS:
- Please, help conserve water. This is good stewardship. Water is a finite commodity.
- Pray for rain
- Please, encourage your friends, family members and neighbors to conserve water.
5. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. MARY:
- February 2, 9, 16, 23: The Christian Faith.
- March 2 to April 6: The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis.
- April 20: Performance of the play: "The Horrowing of Hell" at the 10 am Mass. Cast is needed. Youth and Young Adults preferred. If interested, talk to Debora Shuger ASAP.
- May 4, 11, 18, 25: Anglo-Catholicism
- June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29: Hymnody in worship
- July: on vacation.
- August: visits to holy sites in Los Angeles.
6. UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars
- March 5: Ash Wednesday - services at 8 am; 12 pm and 7 pm. Ashes will also be imposed on foreheads near the Trader Joes in Culver City.
- April 13: Palm Sunday.
- April 17 - 19: Sacred Triduum:
- April 19: Easter Vigil beginning at 8 pm
- April 20: Easter Day.
