Parish UPDATE: April 13

Beloved of God, 

As we approach Holy Week, here is what is making news in our parish:

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY:
  • Saturday, April 12: Screening of the documentary "Fambul Tok" at 6 pm in St. Joseph Hall
  • Sunday, April 13: Palm Sunday. Service begins at 10 am in the plaza. Procession to Watseka and Regent and return to the church.
2.    LENT AT ST. MARY: 
  • Weekday: Morning Prayer at 8:45 am; Mass at 9 am
  • EVENSONG at 6 pm on FRIDAYS
  • Stations (Way) of the Cross at 6:30 pm on FRIDAYS   
3. HOLY WEEK AT ST. MARY:
  • Tuesday, April 15: Renewal of Ordination Vows, Cathedral Center, 840 Echo Park Ave, Los Angeles at 11 am. All are welcome.
  • Thursday, April 17: 
    • Maundy Thursday Proper Liturgy at 7 pm including foot-washing and vigil before the reserved Sacrament. 
    • Guest Homilist is Br. Clark, SSF, Minister-General, Society of St. Francis
  • Friday, April 18: 
    • Stations of the Cross at 12 pm
    • Good Friday Proper Liturgy at 7 pm. 
    • Guest Homilist is Br. Clark, SSF, Minister-General, Society of St. Francis
  • Saturday, April 19: 
    • Parish Work Day begins at 9:30 am
    • Great Easter Vigil begins 8 pm with the lighting of the new fire.
    • Guest Homilist is Br. Clark, SSF, Minister-General, Society of St. Francis
4.  PARISH RUMMAGE SALE: [MAY 3]
  • Saturday, May 3 from 8 am to 3 pm and portion of Sunday, May 4 if needed.
  • Help us raise funds to support the mission and ministries of our parish
  • Volunteers and donations needed. Please, talk to Mauricio Correa, Fr. Vincent or Fr. Federico 
    5.   PALMS EMERGENCY  PREPAREDNESS PROJECT:
    • You have heard about the many earthquakes in So California in recent days, now join us in preparing our community for any emergency. Let your own emergency plan include the safety of your neighbors and community. Talk to Fr. Vincent after Mass or send him an email. 
    6.  TRADING LAWN FOR DROUGHT TOLERANT PLANTS
    • We got approval March 20, from the LADWP to proceed with replacing the lawn in our parkway - 3200 sq. ft of space - with drought tolerant plants.
    • We are currently working on the plan (sketches) for re-planting the parkway. Plans will be completed before Easter and work done soon after we get final approval.
    7.  CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CLASSES AT ST. MARY:
    • May 4, 11, 25:  Anglo-Catholicism
    • June 1, 8, 22, 29:  Church and Music
    • July: on vacation.
    • August: visits to holy sites in Los Angeles.

    8.  UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:  
    • Sunday, April 20: Easter Day. Potluck brunch. Please, bring your favorite dish to the potluck brunch
    • May 4: Performance of the play "The Harrowing of Hell" in place of the Ministry of the Word at Mass
    • Sunday, May 4: Brief presentation (at the end of Mass) by Ms. Tanya Leal, Secretary, Palms Neighborhood Council, on the Neighborhood Council Board Elections
    • Sunday, May 18: Election Day to elect a new Board Council for the Palms Neighborhood Council. Venue for elections will be announced later. 
    9.   OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
    • Healing for Bianca, Joana, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Betty Moreno, Fr. Anderson.
    • For all efforts to locate Malaysia Flight MH 370. For the families as they wait for reliable news about the fate of their relatives on that flight.
    • Our youth: Larry Jr, Simone, Jeffrey, Natasha, Yasmine, Obed, Audrey and Michelle.
