Here is what is making news in our parish:
1. THIS WEEKEND AT ST. MARY:
- Friday (tonight): Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass at 7 pm here at St. Mary. Join us in celebration if you can.
- Saturday, August 16: Free CPR training here at St. Mary sponsored by the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition. Training runs from 10 am to 1 pm
- Sunday, August 17: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 15]
- NO VESTRY MEETING
2. PARKWAY LAWN CONVERSION:
- work is ongoing.
- volunteers needed and welcomed for planting new plants.
3. NEXT PARISH WORK DAYS
- Saturday, August 30: We will clean the sacristy and get the church ready for the Patronal Feast. Work period begins at 9:30 and will be over by 10:30 am.
- Saturday, September 6: We will set up the church [for the Patronal Mass] and St. Joseph Hall [for the potluck fiesta following Mass - 9:30 to 10:45 am)
4. PATRONAL POTLUCK FIESTA - SEPTEMBER 7
- Please, sign up beginning next week to bring food and beverages for the Patronal Fiesta on Sunday, September 7.
- If you have borrowed or taken table cloths to wash, please, remember to bring these back to the church by August 6 so we can have them ready for the patronal fiesta. Thanks for cleaning the table cloths.
5. UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:
- Sunday, September 7: Patronal Festival and Feast of Title. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be Guest Celebrant and Preacher. Mass will be bilingual - Spanish and English. Please, mark your calendar and join us in this celebration. Mass begins at 11 am with the rite for the Reception of a Bishop, to be followed with a procession around our immediate neighborhood.
- Saturday, September 27: Third annual Faris Drive Neighborhood Block party from 10 am to 3 pm. Volunteer workers needed. Please, talk to Fr. Vincent if you can help with planning.
6. OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
- Continued healing for Bianca, Joanna Cory, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Fr. Anderson
- peaceful resolution of the conflicts in Gaza, Israel, Ukraine
- a cure for the Ebola disease. For all who have died in that pandemic and for their families as they mourn.
- Alyssa - travelling at this time - and all who will be travelling this summer.
- Our youth: Larry Jr, Simone, Jeffrey, Natasha, Yasmine, Obed, Audrey, Jason and youth from the Spanish community.
