Here is what is making news in our parish:

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY
    • Sunday, August 31: Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 17]
    • Labor Day weekend
2.   FR. HAROLD ANDERSON'S 90TH BIRTHDAY: August 30
  • May be you did not know but now you know
  • Fr. Harold Anderson's 90th birthday is August 30
  • Join us at Mass on Sunday, August 31 in a modest celebration at and following Mass to celebrate his ministry in the church and in our parish community
  • you may also consider sending him a card or just call him to wish him a happy birthday. He can be reached at 310-641-2414
3.    NEXT PARISH WORK DAYS
  • Saturday, August 30: We will clean the sacristy and get the church ready for the Patronal Feast. Work period begins at 9:30 and will be over by 10:30 am.
  • Saturday, September 6: We will set up the church [for the Patronal Mass] and St. Joseph Hall [for the potluck fiesta following Mass - 9:30 to 10:45 am) 
4.  PATRONAL POTLUCK FIESTA - SEPTEMBER 7
  • Please, sign up NOW to bring food and beverages for the Patronal Fiesta on Sunday, September 7.
5.  UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:  
  • Sunday, September 7:  Patronal Festival  and Feast of Title. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be Guest Celebrant and Preacher. Mass will be bilingual - Spanish and English. Please, mark your calendar and join us in this celebration. Mass begins at 11 am with the rite for the Reception of a Bishop, to be followed with a procession around our immediate neighborhood.
  • Saturday, September 27: Third annual Faris Drive Neighborhood Block party from 10 am to 3 pm. Volunteer workers needed. Please, talk to Fr. Vincent if you can help with planning.
  • PARISH RUMMAGE SALE: Saturday, November 8 & Sunday, Nov. 9
6.    OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
  • Continued healing for Bianca, Joanna Cory, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Fr. Anderson
  • Phyllis Thomas and Fr. Anderson on their birthdays
  • a cure for the Ebola disease. For all who have died in that pandemic and for their families as they mourn.

    • VESTRY MEETING in St. Cecelia Room beginning at 11:30 am

Parish UPDATE: August 17

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY
    • Friday (tonight): Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass at 7 pm here at St. Mary. Join us in celebration if you can.
    • Saturday, August 16: Free CPR training here at St. Mary sponsored by the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition. Training runs from  10 am to 1 pm
    • Sunday, August 17: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 15]
    • NO VESTRY MEETING

Parish UPDATE: August 10

Here is what is making news in our parish:

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY
    • Sunday, August 10: The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 14]. 
2.  FREE CPR TRAINING: On Saturday, August 16 from 10 am to 1 pm
  • To be conducted by professionals from Beverly Hills. This is a program sponsored by the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition. It is available for every member of our community. Come learn life-saving techniques. The life you may save could be that of your loved one or relation or most importantly, that of a child of God.
  • SPACE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 15 PEOPLE. please, register now, by sending an email to Fr. Vincent at stmaryinpalms@yahoo.com as soon as possible.
  3.  PARKWAY LAWN CONVERSION:
  • work begun on Tuesday, August 5 and is ongoing. 
  • volunteers needed and welcomed for digging up lawn and planting new plants.
4.  PALMS EMERGENCY  PREPAREDNESS PROJECT:
  • Help prepare the Palms Community for any emergency. Join the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition [PePC].  New members welcome to the Coalition.  Talk to Fr. Vincent after Mass or send him an email if you would like to learn more about PePC

  • Do you know anyone interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? Would you like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
  • Next time this Sacrament will be administered in our parish will be during the Patronal Feast on Sunday, September 7. Bishop Mary Douglas Glasspool will be with us on that day.
  • Classes have already formed for both English and Spanish communities. Please, talk with Fr. Federico (for the Spanish Edition) and Fr. Vincent (for the English edition).
