Annual Parish Meeting, Sunday, Jan. 26.

 ANNUAL PARISH GENERAL MEETING:
  •  Sunday, January 26 beginning with Mass at 10 am. Rector's report will be presented during Mass.
  • At 11:15 am, a short meditation will precede the business portion of the AGM
  • As in the past, this is a potluck event. Please, bring your favorite dish and if you can, provide some vegetarian dish as well. 
  • Come meet Rebecca Merwin, our new Parish Administrator and Ledy Hernandez, our new Parish Bookkeeper.

1. THIS WEEK AT ST. MARY - SUNDAY, JANUARY 19
  • Second Sunday after Epiphany. 
  • Christian Education Time [11:15 am]: Continuing a three-part class in Christian Meditation  led by Julia Bergstrom. Meet in the chapel.
  • VESTRY MEETING in St. Cecilia room beginning at 11:30 am. 
2.  ANNUAL PARISH GENERAL MEETING:

3. NEW STAFF AT ST. MARY
  • Please, plan on meeting and greeting Rebecca Merwin, our new Parish Administrator, and Ledy Hernandez, our new Parish Bookkeeper at our Parish's Annual General Meeting on Sunday, January 26.  
4. PAINTING OF ST. JOSEPH HALL
  • The painting of St. Joseph Hall is now complete. Thanks to all who made it happen,  especially our donors - Sandra, Paul and Arturo. 
5. HELP NEEDED: Kitchen sink replacement
  • We need all the help we can find to raise $650 to replace our aged kitchen sink in the parish kitchen which has served us faithfully over many years. The Try God Group of AA is also pledging some money and free labor towards this project. If you can help, please, make a check to "St. Mary in Palms" with "Kitchen sink" in the Memo line. Work will commence as soon as all the money is raised. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Thanks for your generosity.
6.  CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. MARY:
  • Except as noted, Sunday classes begin at 11:15 am

  • February 2, 9, 16, 23: The Christian Faith.
  • March 2 to April 6: The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis.
  • April 20: Performance of the play: "The Harrowing of Hell" at the 10 am Mass
  • May 4, 11, 18, 25:  Anglo-Catholicism
  • June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29:  Hymnody in worship
  • July: on vacation.
  • August: visits to holy sites in Los Angeles.

  • Saturday, January 18 at 4 pm: Martin Luther King celebration. Venue: Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park. Bishop Michael Curry, North Carolina will be guest preacher.
  • Sunday, February 2: Feast of the Presentation/Candlemas. End of the Christmas season. Come, celebrate with us.
  • March 5: Ash Wednesday - services at 8 am; 12 pm and 7 pm. Ashes will also be imposed on foreheads near the Trader Joes in Culver City.
  • April 13: Palm Sunday.
  • April 17 - 19: Sacred Triduum: 
  • April 19: Easter Vigil beginning at 8 pm
  • April 20: Easter Day.

  • The Baptism of our Lord. 
  • Christian Education Time [11:15 am]: Beginning a three-part class in Christian Meditation  led by Julia Bergstrom. Classes will meet on Sunday, January 12, 19 and for about 20 minutes on January 26. Meet in the chapel.
  • Thank you for your pledge and for making the ministries and mission of this parish possible.

  • Vestry has approved the hiring of Ms. Rebecca Merwin as Parish Administrator to replace Phyllis Thomas who retired at the end of December 2013. Please, plan on meeting and greeting Rebecca at our Parish's Annual General Meeting on Sunday, January 26. 
  • Vestry has approved the hiring of Ms. Ledy Hernandez, an independent contractor, as our Parish Book-keeper to replace Ms. Marsha Vargas. Ledy began work on Saturday, January 4.

  • With funds made possible by a donor and labor provided by members of the TRY GOD GROUP of AA, we will begin re-painting St. Joseph Hall from Monday, January 13. We expect work to be finished by January 17.

1. THIS WEEK AT ST. MARY - SUNDAY, JANUARY 5
  • Second Sunday after Christmas. 
  • Christian Education Time: Report from Diocesan Convention + "A thrill of hope" video.  
  • Thank you for your pledge and for making the ministries and mission of this parish possible. Many pledges are still outstanding. Please, let us have your pledge card NOW.
  • Thank you all for making our ministries and mission possible in 2013. Let's work together to make 2014 a year of faithful stewardship. 
2.  FEAST OF EPIPHANY AT ST. MARY - Monday, January 6
  • Masses at 9 am AND 7 pm
3.  CHANGES IN OUR SUNDAY LITURGY:
  • Morning Prayer now begins at 9:40 am
  • Bell will toll at 9:50 am announcing Mass. Please, observe Meditative Silence in the Chapel and the Nave after the bell is tolled and until the beginning of Mass.
  • Following the Dismissal at the end of Mass, please, leave the Nave or Chapel area quietly allowing Meditative Silence for those wishing to spend more time in prayer. We all need time for prayer.

Rebecca will be in the office beginning Monday, January 6 in a part-time position. We are arranging a time for parishioners to officially meet and greet her.
