Here is what is making news in our parish:

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY: Sunday, June 29
    • Saturday, June 28: Sacristy work day beginning at 9:30 am and finishing at 10:30 am. There will be something for everyone to do. Win a valuable prize donated by the Senior Warden.
    • The Third Sunday after Pentecost [Proper 8A]
    • Christian Education [series on Anglo-Catholicism] after Sunday Mass beginning at 11:30 am 
2.    PHYLLIS IS BAAAACK!!!!!!!
  • After many weeks of un-wellness, Phyllis Thomas returned to us today attending Morning Prayer and Mass. She plans on resuming her normal course of activities, including daily Mass and Sunday Mass, her health permitting.
  • Thanks to all who visited, prayed, sent flowers and cards to her.  
3.   SPIRITUAL COMMUNION:
  • For those who are not able to make communion on Sunday during Mass, you'll now have the opportunity to make a Spiritual Communion during Holy Communion. You will find the text in your Sunday worship bulletin. Ideally, we'd like to have you receive Holy Communion with us.
4.   PALMS EMERGENCY  PREPAREDNESS PROJECT:
  • Help prepare the Palms Community for any emergency. Join the Palms Emergency Preparedness Coalition [PePC].  New members welcome to the Coalition.  Talk to Fr. Vincent after Mass or send him an email if you would like to learn more about PePC 
5.   R.I.P: JOEL KENNEDY
  • I regret to announce the death of Joel Kennedy, twin brother of Mark Kennedy, Organist and Choir Director of our parish. Joel died in Hawaii early this week. Funeral arrangements are still pending.

6.  COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH FIRST- AIDERS TRAINING [Saturday, July 12 & 26]
  • Registration is open to all who would like to be trained by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) as Certified Community Mental Health First-Aiders. 
  • The DMH will provide all training free of charge
  • Eight hours of training required for certification. 
  • Training dates are Saturday, July 12 and July 26 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
  • All training will be held at St. Mary in Palms. 
  • Registration is now closed.
7.   CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. MARY
  • July: on vacation.
  • August: visits to holy sites in Los Angeles.
8.  UPCOMING EVENTS: Mark your calendars:  
  • Sunday, September 7: Matronal Festival [& Feast of Title]. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be our celebrant and preacher. Mass will be bilingual - Spanish and English. Please, mark your calendar and join us in this celebration.
  • Saturday, September 27: Third annual Faris Drive Neighborhood Block party from 10 am to 3 pm. Volunteer workers needed. Please, talk to Fr. Vincent if you can help with planning.
9.  SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
  • Do you know anyone interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? Would you like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
  • Next time this Sacrament will be administered in our parish will be during the Matronal Feast on Sunday, September 7. Bishop Mary Glasspool will be with us on that day.
  • Classes have already formed for both English and Spanish communities. Please, talk with Fr. Federico (for the Spanish Edition) and Fr. Vincent (for the English edition).
10.   OF YOUR CHARITY, PLEASE, PRAY FOR:
  • Continued healing for Bianca, Kucti Devi, Joana, Gerda, Anthony Jo, Betty Moreno, Fr. Anderson. 
  • Alyssa - travelling at this time - and all who will be travelling this July 4 weekend.
  • all efforts to locate Malaysia Flight MH 370. For the families as they wait for more reliable news about the fate of their relatives on that flight.
  • the safe release of the 200+ schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in Nigeria. 
  • a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine
  • Our youth: Larry Jr, Simone, Jeffrey, Natasha, Yasmine, Obed, Audrey and Michelle.

1THIS WEEKEND  AT ST. MARY: Sunday, June 15
    • TRINITY SUNDAY
    • In place of the  Nicene Creed, we will recite the Creed of St. Athanasius, found on pages 864 - 865 1979 BCP 
    • VESTRY MEETING beginning at 11:30 am in the Conference Room
2.    SPIRITUAL COMMUNION:

  • Day of Pentecost: We will read the passage John 20:19-23 in as many non-English languages as possible. So far, we have German, Spanish, Ga, Turkish, Indonesian, Italian, Greek and Latin. 
2.    CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT ST. MARY [FOR JUNE]:
  • All classes begin at 11:30 am
